Similar to missing a step and stumbling in front of a crowd, when I accidentally drop and shatter my makeup, I want nothing more than to rewind a few seconds to salvage what's left of my makeup {and my dignity}. This happened recently, when I dropped my brand new Stila bronzer compact. Luckily for me, I was able to give it a second life by following a few foolproof steps outlined below.
If you have opened your compact only to find the delicate remains in clumpy mounds, never use that as an excuse to replace your makeup. Although we live in a high consumerist society, it will never hurt the environment {or your wallet} to pull together your resources to recycle items you already have. Therefore, if you wish to resuscitate your broken blush compact or favorite eye shadow palette, follow the steps below. It won't cost any money {or the quality of the original product}.

  • 70% alcohol
  • eye dropper
  • butter knife or small spatula
  • small makeup brush

1. Place the remains of the broken powder into the original compact.
2. Crush the remains to a fine, even powder using your knife or spatula.
3. Using the dropper, add roughly 10 drops of alcohol to your powder,
or as much as you find necessary to mix the solution.
4. Once the solution is maluable, press and smooth the powder into place.
5. Using your knife or spatula, carefully even any lumps or ridges in your powder.
6. Once the powder is firmly pressed, clean up the edges using your small makeup brush.
7. Allow the final product to dry.
8. ...Good as new!

  • If you like loose powder, or aren't comfortable adding alcohol to your powder, you can place your shattered powder into a separate plastic container with a lid. That way, when you're ready to use it, you can treat it like you would any other loose powder without creating a mess.
  • Or add your pink blush to vaseline or a lip balm in a pot to create a pretty pink lip shine.

Have you tried this method to revive your broken powder? How did it turn out for you?

XO Taylor
